Here’s a great case for developing Daniel Pink’s Empathy aptitude.  If you read through to the last part of the article, you will see what I’m getting at.

Within eight years, almost 24% of the workforce will be over the the age of 55.  Nearly 13% of workers will be between the ages of 16-24 by 2018.  And that’s just generational diversity!

As we prepare our students to enter the workforce, there will be much attention paid to the first part of this article.  Mainly that health care, computers, and services are the high-growth areas with the best opportunities.

But what we cannot forget is that all industries will be more diverse.  Not only ethnic diversity, but generational diversity also.  Our students need empathy if they are to be successful with people from such varied backgrounds.  If we would like to give them the tools for success, then we need to put the aptitude of empathy near the top.
